Taipei-based shoegaze / noise pop band Manic Sheep has announced their first-ever one-man show in Tokyo.
Blending the ethereal textures of shoegaze and dream pop with the raw energy of noise and post-punk, their sound creates a unique sonic landscape where tenderness and anxiety, silence and explosive volume coexist. Through appearances at Fuji Rock Festival and international tours, they have established themselves as one of the leading acts in Asia’s indie music scene.
Their latest release, Rewind 2014, set to be released on March 27, is a long-lost recording originally made in 2014 but left unfinished. A decade later, the project has finally been completed. The original recordings had been stored on the hard drive of former guitarist Hung Yu, and in 2024, original members Chris Lo, Hung Yu, and White Wu reunited to reconstruct the material—bridging past and present.
The first half of the album recreates the atmosphere of Taipei’s underground shoegaze and post-punk scene, while the latter half expands into krautrock-inspired motorik beats, industrial textures, and a no wave-like sense of tension. This structure, which seems to traverse time, brings the band’s evolution and inner world into sharp focus.
“Rewind” refers to the act of rewinding a cassette tape—physically turning back time. This work attempts to pull sounds left in the past into the present, completing a story that was once left unfinished.
This upcoming live show promises to be a special night that embodies this “time-transcending” work.
Tickets will go on sale from 12:00 PM (JST) on March 27.
